To do: Cut letters out of recycled cardboard or card stock and let your try yarn weaving around them.
Time: 30 minutes
Materials: Cardboard, cardstock, yarn
Pick a letter your child is interested in and cut it out of recycled cardboard or card stock. Pick a color of yarn your child loves and invite them to weave it around the letter until you can’t see any more cardboard!
It’s as simple as that. Your child will practice fine motor movement by yarn weaving around the letter shape.
Set the finished letter on a book shelf, or hang on the wall by your library. Practice recognizing what sound the letter makes, and also what name it has. For example, this letter sound is ‘sss’ and it’s name is “S”.
If you’d like to reuse the yarn, just unwind it from the completed letter and use on a new one!
