Children are constantly making comparisons, and it’s an important process to help them make sense of the world. You can compare practically everything in your daily environment, and this fall, we suggest comparing gourds and pumpkins.
Here are some ways to compare:
- Smooth or bumpy?
- Light or dark colored?
- With a stem or without a stem?
- Comparing two, which is heavier?
- Which is taller?
- Which is wider?
Start using specific squash vocabulary as well! The price tags at the market should tell you if a squash is an acorn, a butternut, or one of the millions of other varieties.
Get creative when shopping for pumpkins and gourds this season, and appreciate the fall season, because it passes by quickly!
