To do: Glue cotton balls around a paper bear cut out to mimic snow piling atop a cave.
Time: 15 minutes
Materials: Cotton balls, glue, black paper, bear cut-out
__

Working with glue is a whole lot of fun for young children. Try this activity to speak about hibernation and build fine motor control at the same time!

You’ll need:
– A black or dark blue piece of construction paper.
– A handful of cotton balls, 10-20
– White glue
– A white cut-out of a bear, or a white crayon

First, paste or draw your white bear onto the dark paper, bottom center. If you’d like, draw a light circle around the bear to represent a cave.

Next, place some glue in a small dish. Let your child dip the cotton ball in glue, and press each one carefully around the bear to create a snow covering!

While your child glues, speak about how the snow covering actually helps to keep the bear warm! It creates a layer of insulation from the cold weather outside, just like we stay warm in our homes all winter.
