To do: Listen to whale calls then try to recreate!
Time: 15 minutes
Materials: A place to listen to whale songs, like Youtube
Whales, the largest mammals on Earth, make some pretty incredible sounds. Have you heard them?
The Oceania Project Youtube page has some great whale sounds and songs, not to mention images of whales as well! Give these unique sounds a listen.
Speak to your child about different forms of communication. Humans communicate using words or gestures. Animals like whales use different methods to communicate, such as the whale song! If you have pets or see wild animals, can you figure out how they communicate?
Finally, try mimicking these unique sounds. It’s pretty fun, and good ear training for your child. Mimicking noises, especially specific tones, is an early way to develop skills that will help with music training later in life!
