Time: 15 minutes
Materials: Cocoa, sugar, salt, milk, vanilla
Whip up some delicious homemade cocoa and read the night away! Simple traditions like drinking hot cocoa together and setting aside time for reading are great ways to encourage literacy at home.
Here’s what you need for ONE serving of hot cocoa, just multiply depending on the number of people in your family:
– 2 tablespoons unsweetened cocoa powder
– 1 to 2 tablespoons sugar, to taste (or honey or maple sugar)
– Pinch of salt
– 1 cup milk (or milk substitute)
– 1/4 teaspoon vanilla extract
Hand your child the whisk and combine all ingredients above while your child mixes. Transfer to a small saucepan and heat the mixture over medium-low heat until warm. Lastly, stir in vanilla and enjoy!
