Take your fine motor work outside in the form of washable sidewalk paint!
This activity requires handling a paintbrush, which helps your child build fine motor skills. Not to mention, it’s a lot of fun to paint when you don’t have to worry about going off the canvas.
Here’s how to make Sidewalk Paint.
Instructions:
- Place 1/4 cup PLUS 2 tablespoons corn starch in a small bowl.
- Whisk in 1/4 cup cold water, a little at a time until you have a consistency that drips off the whisk.
- Add food coloring, either liquid or gel, until you get the color you want!
Head outside and get painting! Holding a small paint brush to paint designs will help your child hone the skills they need to begin writing. This is called the pincer grip, when thumb and pointer finger work in unison!
We hope you enjoy time spent outdoors this summer as a family. Send us photos of your artwork @primarycommunity!
