To do: Print 3 Part Cards of Sea Mammals and practice new vocabulary with your child.

The 3 Period lesson is a tried and true method of teaching new vocabulary in the Montessori classroom. You can do it at home too, and we have a beautiful set of Sea Mammal 3 Part Cards courtesy of the Montessori Company for you to use. Print them here!
Next, use the 3 Period Lesson to teach new animal names. Start by introducing animals in the Naming Period: “This is a humpback whale.” Use only the cards with the image for this step. Go through 3 cards at a time.
Next, using the same set of 3 cards you’ve just learned, ask your child to do an action with the card. For example, “Which one is sea lion?”, “Point at”, “Pick up”, or “Put the __ over there”. This is the Recognizing Period.
Lastly, point at or pick up a card and ask your child, “What is this?” This is the called the Remembering Period. Your child will be confident in their new vocabulary after working with it in three different ways!
Continue with a new set of cards if your child is interested, or save some for another day.
