In the activity video “Objects + Labels: Vocab Work” you’ll see a set of small items with matching word labels. The words we chose were Jar, Lid, Jam, Nut and Gum.
All of these words have something in common. You can spell them phonetically! This means that you hear and sound out every letter in a word.
Try utilizing phonetic words for your child who is just learning to write and read. Make simple handwritten or typed labels. Your child can practice reading then placing the label next to the object it names!
Here are some examples to try at home:
- Cat
- Map
- Fan
- Bed
- Jet
- Elk
- Wig
- Lip
- Hog
- Dot
- Jog
- Pup
- Bun
- Milk
