The best fine motor activities, in our opinion, are the ones that require minimal instruction and materials to set up.
You can hand your child a few tools and off they go!
This activity meets all the requirements. We’re calling it Rubber Band Cupcake Shapes.
- Rubber bands, different sizes and colors
- Cupcake or muffin pan, whatever size you have
Your child will understand this activity very quickly. The main idea is to use hand muscles and fine motor precision to stretch rubber bands around the bottoms of cupcake molds!
The rubber bands, when layered, can create intricate shapes and patterns.
Younger children will benefit by simply getting the rubber bands on the molds. It’s satisfying work that requires focus and task-persistence. Provide only 3-4 rubber bands for younger children.
Older children can experiment by making squares, rectangles or triangles. Practice patterns by alternating colors!
When you’re done, this activity cleans up quickly. Replace the rubber bands wherever you keep them, and stick the cupcake pan back in the cupboard!
We hope you give this simple Rubber Band Cupcake Shape activity a try at home!
