The beauty of the Montessori-inspired 3 Part Cards is that children of more than one age or ability level can work with them. They have many uses for vocabulary building, sound recognition, and reading exercises!

As a follow-up from the Sports Vocabulary: 3 Period Lesson video, we invite you and your child to work with the labels included. Here’s the printable file one more time for you.

If your child needs a reminder on the sport names, go through the 3 Period Lesson one more time. Next, lay out a neat grid of only the image cards. Start with the written name labels in a stack.

Read the first one slowly and carefully with your child, if they need your help. Find the corresponding image card, and place the name label beneath it!

Try to refrain from telling your child yes or no, even if they ask you, “Is that right?” When you are finished with your entire set of labels, your child can use the Control Card, or the set of cards that have name label and image card attached, to check their work. No adult intervention is necessary!

If your child is a bit young for reading the name labels, practice saying and listening for all of the separate sounds that make up a word. For example – Soccer. What sounds do you hear?
