To do: Swap out your wardrobes each new season.
Time: 1 hour
Materials: Bins to store clothing you won’t use until next season.
__
As the seasons change, make swapping out your wardrobe a family event.
Start by having a conversation with your child or children. “Brr, it was chilly this morning! I had to wear a sweater. What did you wear?”
Next, “Hmm, I don’t think we’ll need our flip flops and shorts anymore. Let’s put these away to enjoy next summer!”
Alternatively, if you know your child will outgrow them, perhaps have a discussion about donating to a used clothing store or giving hand-me-downs to a family member.
Finally, get out all your winter gear and organize it in your child’s closet or dresser! Have fun by trying on scarves or hats that you haven’t seen since last winter.
The visual representation of switching out your wardrobe will cue your child to the fact that a change in seasons is coming. Rather than dreading having to put on extra layers, use winter as an excuse to wear your favorite gear from last season.
