To do: Join snack time or start a play group at a retirement home or visit an elderly neighbor
Time: 1 hour
Materials: Time, snacks, games
Try to bridge the generational gap by spending some time in a retirement community or with an elderly neighbor. All it takes is your time, but can have great benefits for both your children and older generations.
Contact your local retirement home to see how you can get involved or try one of these ideas:
- Take your snack on the road and join a nearby nursing home for snack time.
- Do nursing homes play organized games? Join for bingo or cards.
- Stop by an elderly neighbor’s home just to say hello, or bring a flower or homemade card.
- Organize a group of friends to have a play date at a nursing home. Simply pack a few toys and snacks.
There are plenty of ways to spend time with older generations, and the residents of the home and your children will both enjoy this time spent together.
