To do: Volunteer to walk dogs at your local animal shelter
Time: 30 minutes
Materials: Some energy to walk!
__
Many animal shelters need help walking dogs. Even if you aren’t able to adopt a dog (or would prefer not to) your child can help these animals by taking them on a walk!
Call around to your local animal shelters and ask a few questions about this volunteer opportunity. Most shelters have a system in place and will be happy to answer your questions.
Next, speak with your child about how to act safely around dogs. Practice slow, easy movements and let the dogs smell your hands first before petting them.
Finally, head to the shelter! Make this a new weekend tradition after breakfast or lunch.
