Control of movement takes many shapes and forms. Try walking on a sidewalk in a straight-line to build muscle control and balance!
In the Montessori classroom, children practice balance by walking heel-toe, heel-toe along a circle. Sometimes they challenge themselves by carrying a marble in a spoon or a handbell as well!
Take this activity outside to your nearest sidewalk. Tell your child you’re going to walk very carefully along the edge or in the center of the sidewalk. Demonstrate first, then play a game of follow the leader!
During your outdoor adventures this spring and summer, practice balance whenever possible: On a log, along the edge of the lawn or along a line of your own making!
