“This is a magical time of year.” says Ms. Wood. She’s speaking about back to school time of course, which can be both exciting and nerve-wracking.
One way parents can help prepare the family for this big transition is by maintaining a positive attitude. “What exciting, little ways can we get ready for the first day?” asks Ms. Wood.
Try these ideas to prepare for school or daycare:
- Pick out a special lunchbox
- Find a backpack that your child can call their own
- Speak about your own first days of school in a positive way
- Look at photos of past “first days” and tell stories
Children are empathetic! By speaking positively about school and keeping your own emotions in check, your child will feel supported and prepared for their first days away from home.
